Old Business
So far, 40 club memberships have been renewed for 2026. We finished last year with 49 memberships.
National Mustang Day A joint driving event with the Early Mustang Club of Colorado and Denver Mustang Club is scheduled for Saturday, May 16th after the postponement of the April 18th event due to snow. The joint drive will commence at 9am at the Wooly Mammoth Parking Lot near the intersection of 470 West and I-70 for a cruise that will ultimately finish for a buffet lunch at Snowpack Tavern in Conifer. Salad, wings, and pizza (including gluten free and vegetarian) will be available for $20/person including tax and tip. Drinks will be extra and paid separately because Darrel Schwartzkopf of the Early Mustang Club will collect the $20 at the start of the cruise at the Wooly Mammoth lot. Because the lot is huge, all Mustangs will gather near the back wall of section FF. With a big turnout expected, it shouldn’t be hard to locate everyone prior to the cruise start.
Our FRMC visit to the National Museum of World War II Aviation in Colorado Springs on Saturday, April 25th was a great success with 31 members and friends attending. Pictures of the visit are posted on the FRMC Mustangs Facebook site. Following the museum tour, 18 folks had lunch at The Airplane Restaurant in Colorado Springs at 1665 N Newport Rd. Everyone agreed that a return visit to the museum is a must because while the tour provided a great overview of the facility, there is so much more to see on your own.
On Friday, May 8th two FRMC members, Terry Frank and Jim Dowdell, brought their first generation Mustangs to Cresthill Middle School for Outsiders Day where the ninth graders, who have been studying the famous book and movie, get to dress up in period garb, have special foods, a dance, and come out and see the period correct cars that we and the Corvair Club provide. There was a steady stream of young people checking out the cars and asking questions about the features that were common to cars of the mid-sixties, but aren’t on the cars of today. Thanks Terry and Jim for being willing to share your cars with the kids. It was much appreciated.
It’s been covered before, but the May/June digital issue of The Latest Scoop magazine was released recently. It is under new ownership and some nice upgrades include articles with photos, and car events across Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico and Oklahoma are sorted into state specific pages which makes The Scoop more user friendly. Free digital subscriptions are available by registering at www.https://tinyurl.com/Email-Newsletter-Signup. This subscription will get you an email newsletter with a link to the Latest Scoop issue plus a separate biweekly listing of Colorado car events and the digital SHIFT Colorado magazine every 3 months. How can anyone beat a free deal?

New Business
The below list of Events of Interest is rapidly expanding so check out things to do there. Not yet scheduled, but possible club outings to discuss and schedule for 2026 include:
Visit to the Western Museum of Mining & Industry in Colorado Springs
Tour the Colorado Model Railroad Museum in Greeley
Spend a weekday track day at High Plains Raceway outside Byers in July/August
Tour the Cussler Museum of Classic Cars in Arvada
Visit the Rambler Ranch in Elizabeth
FRMC was asked by a proud father, Mark Spragins, if we could provide a vintage Mustang for photos at a May 23rd wedding of two recent West Point graduates at the Willow Ridge Manor outside Morrison. John McNurney volunteered his 1967 red convertible for the photo shoot and the bride’s father will make a donation to the FRMC treasury. Getting to do community events like this and last year’s Mullen High School cheerleader squad photos make us realize the special place the Mustang holds in the American psyche.
With Frank Herbst, our webmaster, moving to Florida, the club needed a new backup Treasurer to sign checks in case Tom Ferguson is unavailable. John McNurney volunteered to step into that role , and he and Tom will meet with Vectra Bank officials in the near future to facilitate the transfer of duties.
Joe Bolis has organized a tour of the NGD Car Storage Facility at 2155 S Sheridan Blvd for FRMC and SAAC Colorado members on Saturday, May 23rd. NGD houses over 200 cars indoors and does detail and mechanical work also. We attended a very nice Cars & Coffee event at NGD last fall and our members really enjoyed it. SAAC will be providing donuts and coffee for the 9:15am tour. If you didn’t let Joe know you will be attending yet, contact him at 303-598-6698 or joesfm6s@gmail.com so he can let owner David Fitzgerald how many to expect.
Rounding out the month of May and taking us though June, the Early Mustang Club has arranged a tour of a private car collection in the Loveland/Johnstown area on Sunday, May 31st. The tour is at a private residence and the details for attending are included in Tom’s May 5th email labeled Messages from the Presidents. The 13th Annual Lincoln Tech Car Show is on Saturday, June 7th in Denver and the 43rd Annual Colorado Concours d’Elegance is Sunday, June 7th in Littleton. Details for both events are below in the Upcoming Club or Other Events of Interest Section. There is still time to get your Mustang in the Concours and like last year, there will be a dedicated parking area for Mustangs and Shelby vehicles. The 38th Rocky Mountain Mustang Roundup is June 18-20th at Pikes Peak International and Cripple Creek with a link to the details in the Upcoming Club or Other Events of Interest section below. Several FRMC members will be attending and Gary Spencer mentioned that he could use volunteers to assist with attendee check-in and Show ‘n Shine logistics. On June 21st, the All Ford and Mercury Picnic and Car Show will be held at Arapahoe Park in Golden with details below.
Finally, Tom Ferguson and Keith Johnson will be organizing a half day open track outing at High Plains Raceway on Thursday, July 16th with details for participating to follow in a separate email. In the meantime, put this one on your calendars.
The next FRMC meeting will be held Thursday, June 11th at Romano’s Italian Restaurant at 6:30pm. Terry Frank suggested Helga’s German Restaurant and Deli in Aurora for a future meeting spot. They are said to welcome car clubs. If anyone wants to do some research on this venue for an FRMC meeting, it would be appreciated.
