Old Business

So far, 38 club memberships have been renewed for 2026.   We finished last year with 49 memberships.  Our newest members are Daryl Borsheim and Patty Ferguson who own a 1966 Mustang GT convertible in midnight blue.  They reside in Aurora.
National Mustang Day is April 17th and FRMC President Wendell Salas has been in touch with our sister MCA Club, The Early Mustang Club of Colorado, to conduct a joint event on Saturday,  April 18th.  So far, the plan is to meet at 11am at one of the Dinosaur Ridge parking lots near the intersection of 470 West and I-70 to begin a cruise that will ultimately finish for a late lunch at one of the local Golden Corral restaurants.  More details will follow.  Wendell ordered some National Mustang Day decals for the Mustang Owner’s Museum fundraiser conducted by MCA and National Parts Depot in recognition of Mustang Day.  The windshield decals were distributed to the members in attendance at the March club meeting and there are plenty to pass out the during the April 18th event if you missed out Saturday.
Since we had to cancel our visit to the National Museum of World War II Aviation in Colorado Springs on Saturday, January 24th  due to bad weather, we used the March member meeting to discuss rescheduling the event.  The members agreed that March weather could still be iffy, so it was decided to shoot for Saturday, April 25th for the visit.  Jim Yank has rescheduled our visit with the museum and they will be expecting us to start our private tour at 11am.  He told the museum to expect 26 members and guests for the tour.   As originally planned, our visit will include a private tour of the facility, including its renowned restoration shop, that should last an estimated hour and a half to two hours.   The cost will be $20 at the door ($15 + $5 for the resto shop) for seniors and $22 for non-seniors.  Be sure and tell the museum you are with FRMC to get that price and be directed to the proper tour.  Following the museum tour, we will be shooting for a group lunch at The Airplane Restaurant in Colorado Springs at 1665 N Newport Rd.   The restaurant features dining inside a modified US Air Force KC-97 tanker fuselage.   As we get closer to the date, Tom will send out a separate email for a final count of attendees.
Wendell noted that registrations for the June 18-20 Rocky Mountain Mustang Roundup are looking good with no schedule changes and Alpine Ford stepping up as the primary sponsor.
The Roundup will include a Thursday track day at Pikes Peak International Raceway with am autocross and pm open track activities scheduled.  The mountain tour drive up Pikes Peak and later to Cripple Creek and event social will occur on Friday, and the Mustang Show n’Shine and prize announcements will complete the event on Saturday.  The hotel packages for the Chamonix Casino Hotel are available now too.

New Business

For those looking to do something for the 100 year anniversary of Route 66, the Collector Car Council of Colorado forwarded an email describing an upcoming world record-breaking classic car parade on May 28th through May 30th called the Route 66 Capital Cruise in Tulsa to honor The Mother Road.  It’s a long email, but anyone interested should contact Tom Ferguson and he will forward the email to you.
In that vein, Joyce Krasche noted during the March meeting that AAA members can pick up a free Route 66 map, other State maps, consultation, etc. at an AAA office. She found the info on Facebook and picked up a map at Southlands Walmart in the Customer Service, Nail Shop, Vision area.  Per Joyce, the map is really nice and colorful with scenic pictures of points of interests in each state on the Route.
The below list of Events of Interest is rapidly expanding so check out things to do there.  Not yet scheduled, but possible club outings to discuss and schedule for 2026 include:

Visit to the Western Museum of Mining & Industry in Colorado Springs
Tour the Colorado Model Railroad Museum in Greeley
Spend an afternoon track day at High Plains Raceway outside Byers
Tour the Cussler Museum of Classic Cars in Arvada
Visit the Rambler Ranch in Elizabeth
Attend a Shelby American Collection Cars & Coffee (3rd Saturday of the month)
FRMC was asked by a proud father, Mark Spragins, if we could provide a vintage Mustang for photos at a May 23rd wedding of two recent West Point graduates at the Willow Ridge Manor outside Morrison.  John McNurney volunteered his 1967 red convertible for the photo shoot and the bride’s father will make a donation to the FRMC treasury.  Getting to do community events like this and last year’s Mullen High School cheerleader squad photos make us realize the special place the Mustang holds in the American psyche.
Joe Bolis and Danny Gaddy noted that the featured marque at the June 7th Colorado Concours d’Elegance Car Show will be the Bocar, a V-8 powered sports car built in limited numbers in Lakewood from 1957-1961.  Definitely a Cobra precursor.
The March/April digital issue of The Latest Scoop magazine was released recently.  It is under new ownership and some nice upgrades include articles with photos, and car events across Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico and Oklahoma are sorted into state specific pages which makes The Scoop more user friendly.  Free digital subscriptions are available by registering at www.https://tinyurl.com/Email-Newsletter-Signup.  This subscription will get you an email newsletter with a link to the Latest Scoop issue plus a separate biweekly listing of Colorado car events and the digital SHIFT Colorado magazine every 3 months.  Can’t beat a free deal I say.
As the meeting finished, Ron Fox asked Tom to note in the minutes the upcoming Gunnison Car Show running August 14-16 which will feature a Cruise Night on Friday on Main Street, a Saturday Show & Shine in a park on grass, and Sunday there is a morning cruise and breakfast.  He is planning on going and would welcome more FRMC members as company.  A registration link is below in Events of Interest.

MCA Report

The 2026 MCA National Show schedule has been finalized and is detailed below in the Upcoming Events of Interest section of these minutes.  There are two National Shows within driving distance of Denver including the May Ponies in the Ozarks show in Missouri and the July Mustangs on the Mother Road show in Tulsa.  Also, the Rio Grande Mustang Club will again be hosting their Mustang Enchantment Regional Show in Albuquerque, NM in May.  A link for registering for the event is shown below in Events of Interest.  As in past years, Larry Standiford will be leading a caravan of club members to Albuquerque with an initial meeting point at Rosie’s Diner in Monument (yes, despite the rumors, Rosie’s is still open and loving car club customers).
FRMC secured its  2026 MCA Club Liability Insurance Policy in the last week for the upcoming Rocky Mountain Mustang Roundup.  The policy cost was $486.
CCCC Report
Dick Thompson attended our March meeting and reiterated that the annual Collector Car Council of Colorado Rocky Mountain Car Show and Swap Meet in Broomfield will be held a week early in 2026 on July 25th to avoid conflicting with the Early Mustang Club’s Horsefeathers All Ford Car Show on August 1st.  Dick stressed that the Mustang community needs to show up at the July 25th show to make the date change pay off  for the CCCC leadership as the date change was somewhat controversial.  Dick passed out flyers for the show and for more info, see the listing in Events of Interest below.  Also, volunteers for the show would be greatly appreciated.
Dick also pointed out the existence of an auto memorabilia museum in Yuma, CO (NE part of the state).  The Orphanage is a museum/gallery created to show off a collection of mostly orphan cars along with classic radiator caps and hood ornaments.   The museum welcomes car club visits www.orphanageyuma.com.  Another upcoming event of possible interest is the Corporate Pinewood Derby.  This is a fundraising event for Scouting Colorado where companies assemble a team to design, build, and race pinewood derby cars (unbuilt kits provided) in a friendly competition, except unlike in our cub scouting days, adults are the competitors (as if that wasn’t the case before).  Sponsorships are way out of FRMC’s financial realm, but watching could be fun.  The event is May 1 from 1-3pm at Geotech Environmental Equipment and individual participants are welcome.   Register at www.coloradogives.org/story/CORPPWD.
Or contact 720-266-2131 or savannah dalton@scouting.org.
Dick described the roadblocks CCCC is experiencing with the state legislature in re-legalizing historic military vehicles for the limited road use they get and how the state DMV has been cancelling license titles of vintage cars if not renewed on time.   CCCC can help if this happens to you.
